Botanical name - Carum Carui
Position: Warm, sunny position. Grown in the winter months in warm regions as an annual. Likes soil rich in organic matter so apply lots of compost.
Spacing: 40cm apart and grows 20 - 30cm tall.
Uses:
Caraway seed (it is actually the fruit of the plant) is a common flavouring in rye bread. Also used in sauerkraut, cheese, cabbage and soups. For an enhanced flavour gently toast caraway seeds before use in cheese dishes or potato salad. The young leaves may be used in soups while the fleshy roots may be eaten as a vegetable.
Medicinally caraway is used for digestive disorders like colic.
Care:
Feed monthly with 2.3.2 or multikelp.
