Their are 2 main types of lavender - Angustifolia being the more popular.  Latifolia produces harsher more camphoraceous oils. Lavender is an aromatic, tonic herb with a sweet scent.

Position - Full sun

Spacing - 40 - 50cm apart.

Uses -

The fresh and dried flower tops are used for many ailments from irritability to headaches.  Lavender water is used as a facial spritz, linen spray and room freshner.  It is also an anti -septic and has an anti - depressant effect.    Lavender is also used in pot pourri and some like to use it in their baking. 

Care -

Lavender is fairly easy to look after.   One can cut them back if they get too leggy and old.  They should be able to survive just over 30 years.  Stoechas is very popular as is is very hardy, but Margaret Roberts Lavender seems to do best in South Africa.

Feed monthly with a little 2.3.2 or Multikelp.
